Tom Brady Is Having Concussions Nobody Knows About, Gisele Says

Tom Brady was the hardest quarterback to bring down last season, with a league-leading NFL sack rate of just 10.6 percent. But that hasn't always been the story throughout his career: Since 2000, Brady has been sacked 417 times, second only to Ben Roethlisberger. And yet, as Boston Herald Patriots reporter Jeff Howe pointed out today, Brady hasn't been listed with a concussion in well over a decade.

If you've ever thought that seemed fishy, your instincts may have just been proven correct: Tom Brady does have concussions, or so his wife Gisele Bundchen told CBS This Morning earlier today. "Like, he had a concussion last year," she said. "I mean, he has concussions pretty much—I mean, we don't talk about them, but he does have concussions—I don't really think it's a healthy thing for your body to go through."

The New England Patriots never listed Brady as having a concussion on any of last season's injury reports, nor did they respond to NFL.com's request for comment.

More than 40 percent of retired NFL players suffered brain injuries at one point in their pro careers, according to a 2016 study by the American Academy of Neurology. Research into the long-term effects of concussions are still ongoing, and as Tonic reported last year, we still don't know much about how subconcussive head impacts affect the brain long-term.

What we do know is this: If the Patriots want to keep Brady in the game, they'd do well to keep up that sack rate, regardless of his concussion history—the Super Bowl MVP has previously stated that he'd like to keep playing football until he's 45 years old.
