This Peruvian Flu Remedy Will Make You Forget You're Sick

Moms in Peru swear by Caspiroleta, infused with love and pisco.

You feel like shit. And while doctors, pharmacy counters, and Tylenol PM are all there for you no matter what, what's probably missing is the TLC that only the woman who raised you can provide. The healing capabilities of a mother is a universal concept—no matter where in the world you are, there are moms with tricks up their sleeves to make their babies better. This is International Mom Advice, a hub for natural healers and homesick kids alike.

Your Purell can't save you from your deskmate with the hacking, phlegmy cough, and you're going home to your strep-ridden roommate. Your mom may not be there tonight to take care of you, but according to Peruvian tradition, this flu remedy might be the next best thing. "Lima is a city based on traditions," says Peruvian mom Laura De La Rosa. "And even though we have doctors and everything, first you turn to the traditional home remedies." De La Rosa's go-to flu remedy? Caspiroleta, or pisco milk.

The natural medicine starts with some boiled milk, to which De La Rosa adds cinnamon sticks, which make everything smell vibrant and delicious, even if you can't exactly smell at the moment.

Next, a splash of the title ingredient: pisco. Pisco is a refreshing Peruvian rum (who ever said booze couldn't treat a cold?) usually imbibed in the more traditional fashion—too much at dinner (or lunch). In this case, it's used with the intention of healing. Or just not remembering you're sick anymore.

Next, to sweeten the drink, a teaspoon of honey is added. Once you've garnished with cinnamon powder, it's ready to start working its magic.
