Chrissy Murderbot Names His Top 5 New Producers

The Chicago polymath tips us off to the world’s rising stars of juke, future bass, and straight up house music.

Crissy Murderbot's music is more fun than a bag of four-eyed kittens. Where does one even start when listing the accolades of this Kansas City-born, Chicago-entrenched producer? The dude lists 68 releases in nine years on his Discogs page (including albums for Murder Channel and Planet Mu), and his music has constantly bounced back and forth between juke, jungle, house music, and a dozen other styles—new and old. He's thrown parties and put out records with top Chicago producers like DJ Spinn and Rashad. He runs four labels—the most active recently is Loose Squares, which focuses on footwork mutations and whose latest release, Escape From Chicago Vol. 2, comes out today, March 10!

Oh, also, he once made a mixtape a week for a year. He even wrote his masters thesis on the social history of dance music in the Midwest. He plays all the time and he responds to email faster than you ever will. Who better than Chrissie to run down the latest up-and-comers in the weird world of future bass?

TICKLISH

UMBERTRON

"Chicago hard house meets hardstyle meets juke. Think DJ Trajic versus DJ Deeon."

BELL BOYS

"Two of the kids behind the counter at Chicago's legendary Gramaphone records—I love these guys."

DJ PAYPAL

"Really fun, catchy tunes with lots of chipmunked vocal samples and inventive juke/footwork drum programming."
OLIN & SAVILE

"Resident DJs at another legendary Chicago institution, SmartBar. They're both phenomenally talented. They don't usually work together but I'm using this collaborative track as a way to shoehorn six people into my list of five. Sneaky!"
